Harry Styles as Prince Eric in the 'Little Mermaid' remake is reportedly a done deal.

Ok, Disney isn’t playing games when it comes to the cast of its ‘Little Mermaid’ live-action remake. First, it was announced that Melissa McCarthy would play Ursula, and then Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel (which caused a bit of outrage).

Today Disinsider.com broke the news that Harry Styles has officially signed on to play Prince Eric in the upcoming ‘Little Mermaid’ remake, but it turns out their sources had things wrong.

Harry Styles has pretty much been a favorite for the casting of Prince Eric since the news of Halle Bailey being cast as Ariel came to light. Needless to say, fans everywhere were excited because the inaccurate news story quickly went viral.

A report from The Hollywood Reporter, released later Tuesday evening, says that Harry Styles actually passed on The Little Mermaid role.

Talks between Disney and Harry Styles were rumored to have started nearly a month ago, and it looks like these reports have been substantiated. It’s just too bad that things didn’t seem to work out with Harry as Prince Eric.

Styles is known by many for his time spent in the ever-popular boyband, One Direction. The star was recently in the running to play Elvis Presley in the Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic, but the role was eventually given to Austin Butler.

Production on the live-action ‘Little Mermaid’ remake is expected to begin sometime in the spring of 2020, intimating a late 2021 release.
